Schierke is particularly popular with cross-country skiing fans, who will find 72 kilometres of groomed trails. Tobogganing is also possible on many slopes and the Schierker Feuerstein Arena promises great skating fun.
A real insider tip and the best way to conquer all the trails, even in deep snow, is definitely snowshoeing.

Cross-country skiing in Schierke

Onto the cross-country ski trail and off you go

Schierke offers ideal cross-country skiing conditions in winter. Most of the cross-country trail network starts at the "Am Winterbergtor" car park at around 600 m above sea level and reaches altitudes of over 1000 m above sea level in places.

This difference in altitude is both a strenuous and attractive feature of Schierke's cross-country ski trails, as both the ascents and descents can be very demanding for skiers.

Sliding in Schierke

An overview of toboggan runs in Schierke

Sliding is possible on many slopes in the village and the surrounding area. For our little ones we recommend the toboggan run in front of the tourist information office, the toboggan run at the car park with the entrance to the cross-country ski trail or the grandmother's toboggan run opposite the youth hostel.
